Scalable Solution

Designed to grow with your business and adapt to changing needs.

One Vertimag unit significantly cuts the number of traditional shelving rows needed

Consolidating multiple rows into a single, compact footprint with faster access.

Your floor space is your most expensive real estate —and most of it is wasted.

The first and most visible benefit of a Vertimag is the recovery of floor space. Conventional shelving usually uses only a small share of the building’s available height, while a Vertimag stores product vertically and delivers it to the operator at a controlled access point. In practical terms, this can postpone or eliminate the need for facility expansion, free space for production or staging, and improve overall plant layout.

- Ferretto Spa
PICKING IS SLOW, ERROR-PRONE, AND LABOR-INTENSIVE WITH CONVENTIONAL STORAGE.

Vertimag changes the picking method from person-to-goods to goods-to-person. Instead of operators walking aisles, searching for locations, and manually handling bins on open shelving, the machine presents the required tray directly to the picking bay. This reduces travel time, shortens search time, and supports a more repeatable workflow.

- Ferretto Spa
Vertimag is designed to improve working conditions by bringing material to an ergonomic retrieval height and by limiting bending, climbing, overhead reaching, and unnecessary carrying.

This matters not only for worker comfort, but also for injury prevention, consistency of work, and retention in warehouse roles that are often physically demanding. Compared with open shelving and ladders, the Vertimag environment is more controlled, cleaner, and inherently easier to manage safely.

One operator using a VLM can achieve the throughput of two to three pickers using conventional shelving. Less physically demanding work can help improve retention in high-turnover warehouse roles. Ergonomic bay design reduces bending, reaching, and strain, which can help lower injury risk and workers’ compensation exposure.

Guided software helps shorten training time so new operators can become productive quickly.

- Ferretto Spa
Vertimag provides controlled locations, disciplined storage logic, and transaction visibility that are difficult to achieve with manual shelving.

When the Vertimag is integrated with the Ferretto EJog software, each tray location, item movement, and operator action can be tracked more reliably. This improves stock accuracy, reduces misplaced items, supports faster cycle counting, and gives management better confidence in what is in stock, where it is stored, and who handled it.

- Ferretto Spa
Unlike open shelving, Vertimag restricts physical access to stored goods and can be managed through user permissions and software controls.

This is especially useful for high-value items, controlled components, regulated materials, or environments where audit trail and accountability matter. By keeping materials enclosed and by recording transactions automatically, Vertimag supports a more secure and traceable storage process.

- Ferretto Spa
The economic case for a Vertimag is built on a combination of space savings, labor efficiency, lower error cost, reduced damage or shrinkage, and better use of existing facilities.

This matters because companies often underestimate the true cost of traditional storage. The benefit is not only that a Vertimag can save money, but that it can convert hidden operational inefficiencies into measurable financial outcomes. Vertimag’s typical payback window is 6 to  24 months, depending on the application and the customer’s operating profile.

Broad Configuration Range

Ferretto’s Vertimag line is a flexible system platform rather than a single fixed machine. The Vertimag is available in 15 models, with five widths, three depths, four tray capacities, and 120 tray combinations. Vertimag height ranges from 3.2 m (10.5 ft) to 12 m (39.4 ft) in 200 mm (7.9 in) increments, with tray payload options from 300 kg (661 lb) to 990 kg (2,183 lb) and flexible pitch adjustment at 25 mm (1 in). For a customer, this means the system can be configured more precisely around SKU profile, building constraints, access mode, and growth requirements.

Ergo-Tech Picking Bay

One of Ferretto’s most important differentiators is the exclusive Ergo-Tech picking bay. A solution able to manage the same flows as a double bay while maintaining ergonomic picking conditions and avoiding some of the product-height limitations typical of traditional dual-level configurations. The Ergo-tech bay combines throughput, flexibility, and operator comfort in one solution rather than forcing a tradeoff between them.

Choice of Bay Types for Different Workflows

Ferretto offers multiple bay configurations, including internal single bay, internal double bay, Ergo-Tech bay, external single bay, external double bay, and extractable bay. Ferretto’s broader bay architecture allows the solution to be adapted for ergonomic hand picking, handling of heavy or bulky materials, access by external equipment, or manual extraction of trays where needed.

Storage Flexibility Inside the Tray

Dividers, separators, boxes, clips, and other internal tray accessories that can be added or removed as needs change. Ferretto’s accessory range supports orderly storage of items with different shapes, sizes, and weights, which can improve pick precision, reduce wasted tray space, and make future reconfiguration easier.

Integration with Other Material-Handling Technologies

Ferretto Vertimag is a system that can interact with put-to-light systems, jib cranes, conveyor belts, roller units, weight-handling devices, and anthropomorphic robots. This increases the relevance of the solution for manufacturing cells, kitting stations, and semi-automated distribution environments.

Ergo-Tech Picking Bay

Ferretto’s software layer is an important part of the value proposition. EjLog is designed by Ferretto and can be integrated with the customer’s ERP through an open architecture Functions include product identification, storage and retrieval logic, data consultation, optimized list execution, user management, reporting, remote control, preventive maintenance support, and simultaneous management of automatic and ground-level storage areas.

Service Desk and Remote Monitoring

Ferretto’s Service Desk is a web-based reporting and monitoring environment that gives customers real-time access to machine data, alarms, mission logs, technical information, tray usage statistics, and maintenance data. This is a significant advantage for uptime, preventive maintenance, and management visibility.

Structural and Application Flexibility

Ferretto Vertimag offers several application-specific benefits including reinforced earthquake-resistant structure, outdoor installation capability without an additional cladding structure in certain configurations, fire-fighting system availability on request, electrostatic discharge options, and different accessories to support specialized workflows.
